We’re stuck indoors. Gyms are closed. Beaches are closed, then they’re opened, then they’re closed again. Group training is out of the question. So, what’s a gal to do when she wants to get a sweat on but the usual means aren’t available (read: legal)? Thankfully, parks are still a-OK and open for business, but if you’re feeling like you want to minimise human contact as much as possible (we feel you), then home workouts are for you. And, if you’re unsure where to start, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. From the gear you need to the best apps to use, here are your home workout essentials so you can continue to be fit and healthy in iso.

Firstly, the workout clothes

Yes, we’re working out from home - or in the park - but that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to look and feel cute while doing it, right? It’s pretty much a science that when you look and feel good while working out, you’re likely to train harder.

Essential accessories

Workout gear sorted, now you need the essential accessories. Dumbbells and kettlebells are of course good to have, if you’re lucky enough to find them. If you can’t, resistance bands often do the trick, especially if you’re looking to build a booty or sculpt your arms sans any weighted gear. Resistbnds do some pretty decent bands, and currently have a sale on a5 pack of resistance bands.

Next, you need a yoga mat. Don’t often get bendy? Not to worry, yoga mats aren’t just good for yoga. You can use yoga mats for some cushioning while working the abs, or doing any kind of home/park workout floor work - so versatile, it’s why we love ‘em! Chuchka'srange of eco yoga mats are not only beautiful with eye-catching prints and designs, they're also free from toxic PVC. We love theCobra Cork Yoga Mat.

When getting sweaty, you’ll also need a cute water bottle to boot, because hydration is key. If you don’t have an eco-friendly glass water bottle yet, what are you waiting for? Ditch the plastic and go green with Chuchka’s range of stylish andsustainable glass water bottles. Compact and light, it will become your go-to everyday bottle.

And if you’re exercising in a park or going for a run, then you definitely need to make sure you’re slipping, slopping and slapping on the sunscreen and wearing a hat. Chucka’sSumma Ladies Caps brings an element of fashion to the classic sporty baseball cap featuring a stylish crochet outer lining, and comes in a range of colours, like this pastel pink number below.

The perfect workout app

Lastly, if you don’t fancy yourself much of a runner and need some follow-along motivation, there are countless apps out there. We personally love Kayla ItsinesSWEAT app, which features a range of all-female trainers who instruct cardio, weight training and yoga sessions. There’s also some intense weightlifting and HIIT workouts thrown in for good measure.
