Out rolls the food cart. Beef or Chicken? Chicken or Beef? You cringe at the limited options and wish you had one of your favourite bliss balls to snack on or even some fruit to get you through the next few hours.
A super easy to transport healthy plane snack is fruit! Whether you like Apples, Bananas, Berries or Watermelon you can chop them up into a colourful fruit salad, or quickly grab them from the shop on your way to your gate, leaving you with no excuses to not take this healthy option on board with you. The majority of fruit is naturally low in fat, sodium, and calories, as well as being a great source of many essential nutrients such as potassium, vitamins A and C, and dietary fibre.
Just don't forget to eat it or leave it on the plane, otherwise, you may be in for some hefty fines at customs or a feature on Border Patrol if caught with a piece of fruit in your Chuchka Tote bag!
These light and crispy crackers are made of Jasmine Brown Rice and flavoured with Green Tea and Seaweed, that's it! Making them the perfect healthy plane snack if you lean towards a savoury flavour profile. You will be quick to make friends with your seat buddies by sharing these around. BONUS points with a side of homemade pesto.
Either make your own or buy these beauties from your local health shop for a sweet treat full of goodness, that will kill those mid-air sweet cravings and stop you asking the flight attendant for a second dessert on board. Make your balls extra blissful by including dates for a natural sweetener and a high dose of fibre.
Whether your weapon of choice is a stick of Carrot, Celery or even a Cucumber, Hummus is always a filling and delicious snack. And even when you run out of veggies, everyone will be too engrossed in their own movie screens to notice you getting the last bit out with your finger.
Protein bars come in all flavours these days and are the perfect healthy plane snack because they have something for everyone and the protein helps fill you up! This means no desire to order any in-flight snacks, saving your gut health and your wallet, so more money for shopping on arrival, win-win!
It's so easy to pre-make yourself a big-ass-salad packed with healthy veggies, some chickpeas or chicken for protein and a homemade dressing. Just make sure your dressing is less than 100mL so that you don't have to sacrifice it to the airport police. Top it off with some nuts and seeds for a bit of crunch.
Just because you're watching a movie in a plane seat and not at the cinema, it's no excuse to not have popcorn! Sea Salt, Sweet, and Salty are all options to keep you happy on board whether you're enthralled with the latest Hollywood Blockbuster or crying your way through the Notebook. Add a tablespoon of popping corn and teaspoon of coconut oil in a pot on medium-high with a clear lid and let it do it's thing. Once all popped and still warm, top with natural sea salt, smoked paprika, cinnamon or your flavour of choice.
Nut and Seed mixes are not only a great healthy plane snack because they taste good, but they are also incredibly good for you too. Depending on your combo of nuts and seeds, the mix could supply you with antioxidants, fibre and healthy fats.
You can even mix in some dried fruit for an extra bit of sweetness. Just be careful no-one nearby has any nut allergies!
Nothing is more important for your health on a flight than being hydrated. Coconut water is a great way to stay hydrated while still enjoying a delicious tasting drink. And for those of you that aren't a huge fan of the taste (yet), there's always your go-to H2O to keep you going. Don’t forget to buy this airside after you’ve been through security or take your own reusable bottle and fill it up before you board. Kombucha is also a fun choice if you're craving bubbles.
We couldn't leave you for hours on end without every girl's best friend! Now, put down the Dairy Milk and Aero Bars (even though we all know these are just chocolate-coated air) and try some of the rich and creamy dark chocolatey goodness. Aim for 70% or higher to make sure you're keeping it healthy and try not to eat the entire block in one flight!
So next time you’re hopping on a plane, try one of our Healthy Snacks to keep your gut happy.
